2 cigars for 99¢, 11.5ft x 5.5ft, beads, thread, and cigarillo wrappers
“2 cigars for 99¢” is a project prompted by my move from Louisville, Kentucky to Chicago, Illinois. I took a step back to consider the marijuana laws between the two states and completed this project in the process.
Among the room too pristine to touch lies an ornamented rug. Gathering around it is only for special occasions with special people. A luxury I don’t know yet yearn to have. I think about my own social gatherings in my home growing up. All it took was $5 and a cigarillo pack to participate, and free if you were the host. Our floors were covered in these wrappers as we gathered around. Once an activity seen as “low-class” is now a luxury most can’t afford as dispensaries pop up. Another item that belongs in the pristine room I cannot go in.
